GENERAL

Does Newsteo have direct sales to end-users?

No, Newsteo only sells its RF bridges solutions to professional organisations: mainly OEM customers who need to replace a wired link by a wireless link in their application (installers, sensor manufacturers...).
Newsteo's products are distributed thru representatives, distributors, agents...

• Newsteo it provides support and services with its products?

Yes, we are strongly committed to support our customers in the development and deployment of their wireless sensors. At the beginning of each project, we provide an RF kit that allows to easily integrate a new type of sensor to our RF products. If this is not enough, we propose a tender for the development of solution "turnkey".

• Does Newsteo design and manufacture its own sensors?

No, Newsteo only provides its enhanced RF technology to ensure the RF bridge between one or multiple sensors (up to 500 sensors simultaneously) and another sensor or a supervisor (i.e.; RF Monitor on a PC).

WHY SHOULD I USE A WIRELESS SOLUTION?

• Why using the wireless technology?

Using the wireless technology enables to work in a well-ordered environment in order to be more efficient. But, the main advantage is the savings you can make : it allows reducing time and labour costs (installation and maintenance) and also material (cables). In some applications, the wiring costs can be more than 10 times higher than peripherals costs.

• Is the wireless technology use difficult?

No, industrial companies which choose wireless technology have a well-ordered work environment and an efficient data transfer (a cable which burns can destroy all the installation). Peripherals allow an easier reorganization because of their mobility.

NEWSTEO SOLUTION

• Which are the characteristics of the Newsteo wireless technology?

The Newsteo products communicate on the ISM 868 MHz bands. The ISM bands (industrial, scientific, and medical) are frequencies which can be used freely for industrial, scientist and medical applications in Europe. The Newsteo technology enables a high range of communication with a high autonomy

Is the Newsteo technology adapted to the difficult constraints of industrial environments?

Yes, Newsteo technology was developed and elaborated for industrial environments which are very harsh for electronic components in terms of robustness, vibrations resistance, variations in temperature and variations in humidity.

What are your RF Tokens main functional advantages ?

Thanks to its universal digital and analog embedded interfaces, our RF Tokens can host every kind of sensors, so that the application maker does not have to develop several specific designs for each RF Token on both hardware and software sides.

Do you provide secure links when required?

Yes, we can provide an additional encryption layer for Privacy or Security (based on signals transmission scrambling) when it is required. Please contact us for more details (NDA engagement conditions)

Can I upgrade my RF Tokens without "opening" my product ?

Yes, this is a key advantage of Newsteo's products versus our competition !

Any RF Token, once deployed, can be updated in the field from one RF network master (i.e.; a PC equiped with our RF Monitor). It only takes a couple of minutes to execute and the code upgrade is securized (encryption & error checking).

BENCHMARK

What are the differences between ISM protocol and other wireless protocols like Bluetooth, Wifi, Zigbee…?

These protocols differ from their technical features and their applications.

For example, informatics networks involve a high volume and a high rate of data transfer. In this case, Bluetooth and Wifi networks are massively used for these applications but they require the main current because of their high level of consumption.

On the contrary, industrial applications like reporting of data sensors require a low rate of data transfer, but a high level of reliability. So, communicating on the ISM 868 MHz bands ensure an efficient data transfer and is adapted for applications which require a low rate of data transfer: it ensures a better reliability and a complete freedom.

Who Newsteo targets with its wireless technology?

The wireless technology of Newsteo is intended to all the industrial companies wishing to convert their own sensors into wireless sensors. Thus, industrial companies choose a reliable and professional environment by creating a network of wireless sensors.

RF COVERAGE

Are your RF solutions stopped by trees or human bodies?

No, there’s a slight attenuation but signal goes thru trees or human bodies. Natural denser obstacles, like rocks or mountains, strongly attenuate the signals.

How does your RF solution behave in a building construction environment?

There are 2 models in our portfolio: a first one with built-in antenna is dedicated to transmission thru up to 2 walls, and a second one, with additional ¼ wave antenna is made for transmission thru more walls (up to 5 with maximum power).

What is the line-of-see possible distance?

With built-in small antenna model, up to 50m can be reached.
With additional ¼ wave antenna model, up to 800m can be reached.
With other antennas, we can have several kilometers of range (see Antennas)

POWER CONSUMPTION

Are your products equipped with a battery?

Yes, our telemeters always come with a removable lithium battery that can last up to 5 years depending on the conditions of use and the embedded sensor(s).

Do all your products have the same power consumption?

No, basically, the power consumption of the RF part of the Token is dependant on several programmable parameters: measurement reporting frequency, emission power range selection.
On the other hand, sensor's power consumption is a key factor in battery's lasting.

Can I remotely know if my distant battery is to change ?

Our RF Monitor collects all RF Tokens around information, and of course, low battery level information is received and displayed. A visual or audible alert is even set if programmed.
