PRESENTATION

The Healthcare division of the Star Service group is an expert in healthcare product logistics and in tailor-made solutions for controlled temperature delivery.

A few key figures:

  • 2 National Hubs (Paris and Lyon)
  • 68 locations in France
  • 116 transaction lines
  • 550 vehicles, including 450 that are equipped with tri-temperature compartments
  • A new 4,700m² logistics platform entirely dedicated to healthcare products

THE MISSION

With the creation of its brand Vialto, Star Service Healthcare was searching for an innovative temperature control solution to equip its vehicle fleet and its storage chambers.

Newsteo rose to the challenge and set up, with Star Service Healthcare, a PoC (proof of concept) at one branch. Convinced by the results produced, Star Service Healthcare entrusted Newsteo with the development of an IoT solution for monitoring temperature during the transport and storage of healthcare products.

« How to organise and ensure proof of temperature traceability for each package in compliance with Good distribution practices? »

DEVELOPMENT

The teams at Star Service Healthcare and Newsteo worked together to create and set up the Vialto Track.

The aim: a single solution that allows the company to ensure traceability of the temperature and real-time alerts during all steps and at all points of its activity (storage, transport and delivery).

An installation adapted to the needs of Star Service Healthcare:

Each transport vehicle is equipped with three separate compartments, dedicated to a specific temperature range:

  • Between + 2°C and + 8°C
  • Between + 15°C and + 25°C
  • At -30°C
  • + Solution for transporting dry ice down to -80°C

Wireless temperature probes are installed in each of the compartments, or even inside the packages if necessary. The probe’s sensor obtains an accuracy of +/- 0.3°C and their batteries have a life expectancy of 3 years (using replaceable batteries).

These probes transmit the measurements to the receiver by radio, in real-time, with the display installed in the driver’s cabin. This way, the driver is informed throughout the entire trip. The receiver is connected to the Star Service on-board computer that is already installed.

Then, the on-board computer transmits the data collected via the 3G network, in real-time, to the Star Service Healthcare IT system. The various storage spaces are also equipped with wireless temperature probes that transmit their measurements to the same IT system in the Cloud.

RESULTS

NEWSTEO & STAR SERVICE HEALTHCARE

  • A joint effort that endures since 2015
  • More than 5,000 temperature probes deployed
  • Over 500 receivers with displays have been installed
  • ½ million measurements taken each day
  • A solution that complies with 100% of the regulation

“The Vialto Track solution allowed us to meet the requirements of the French Blood Bank (Etablissement français du sang) in regard to cold chain traceability”

Jean-Rémy Rougier • Vialto Deputy General Manager
